Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about FSVP compliance and building a foreign supplier verification program.

FSVP compliance means meeting the FDA's Foreign Supplier Verification Program requirements, which hold US importers responsible for confirming that the food they bring in was produced under safety standards comparable to those required in the United States. This includes evaluating suppliers, reviewing hazard analyses, and keeping documented records.

Most importers of food regulated by the FDA are required to have a foreign supplier verification program in place before bringing products into the United States. This applies to importers of record, whether they are the actual owner of the goods or an agent acting on the owner's behalf.

Yes. We work with importers based in Florida as well as companies across the United States and internationally, both on-site and remotely.

If FDA finds gaps during an FSVP inspection, they may issue a Form FDA 483a with observations that need to be corrected. We help importers respond to these findings, build a corrective action plan, and update their documentation to close the gaps.

Foreign supplier evaluation looks at the supplier's food safety practices, past performance, and the risk level of the product itself, then matches the level of verification activity to that risk. We help set up this evaluation process and the ongoing monitoring that FSVP requires.

HACCP is a hazard control system used at a single facility to manage food safety during production. FSVP is a US import compliance program that requires importers to verify that their foreign suppliers are meeting food safety standards, which may include confirming the supplier has an adequate HACCP or equivalent program in place.

Yes. We review import shipment records, FDA entry documentation, and prior notice filings, and help coordinate documentation between suppliers and customs brokers so shipments clear without unnecessary holds.

Yes. We support importers and foreign suppliers based outside the United States who need to meet FSVP requirements or work with US-based import partners.
